Manchester City enquire about Italian star

Heady times at Manchester City. Only a couple of days since their dramatic Premier League win and Roberto Mancini and his men are already plotting how to deliver more success to the blue half of Manchester.

The summer spending may begin with half Juventus and half Parma forward Sebastian Giovinco. He plays for two clubs you say? Yes, initially beginning his career with Juve, he has spent the last two years with Parma as they own half of his registration.

The Manchester City negotiators may be as confused as you are as Claudio Pasqualin, the striker’s agent, told Football Italia that City have been in contact over signing the 25 year old Italian.

Giovinco has hit 15 goals in Serie A for Parma this year and title-winning Juventus are keen to take him back to Turin. However, Pasqualin has said the striker is very much in demand around Europe with the luminaries of Spain, Germany and England all looking at the Italian, who has made Cesare Prandelli’s Euro 2012 squad.

According to the Daily Mirror, Giovinco is nicknamed after a cartoon character called Atom Ant, making the potential strike-partnership with Sergio Aguero, taking his alias from Japanese cartoon boy “Kun”, a rather animated one.

More relevantly, the Mirror say Giovinco is known for his ability to play in a variety of attacking positions, out wide or behind a central striker, and he is known for play-making and his prowess at free-kicks.

Pasqualin said he agreed with the Parma president Tommaso Ghirardi in valuing him at £40 million euros, which is small change to money-bags Manchester City, but he also says that his party are still to meet with Juventus.

Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid have all stuck a snout in for the player according to the agent, so City face a battle.
