Sunderland join Hoilett hunt

The looming striker crisis at Sunderland this summer has been elaborated elsewhere with Asamoah Gyan unlikely to return, Nicklas Bendtner’s loan deal coming to a close, Frazier Campbell’s injury problems and Stephane Sessegnon not actually being a striker.
As a result, Martin O’Neill has been linked with a range of alternative options to bolster his forward line next season and, ta da, here is another one.
The Daily Mail reports today that Junior Hoilett (real name David Wayne Hoilett) has come on Sunderland’s radar (some three months after everyone else’s) with chief scout Brian ‘Pop’ Robson joining the host of other scouts at Ewood this season. and the Wearsiders hope to entice him to the North East if Blackburn Rovers get relegated this season.
However, the Black Cats will face stiff competition for Holiett’s signature with representatives of Bayern Munich and Marseille being frequent visitors to Ewood Park this season and the former would have the added carrot of Champions League football to dangle in front of Hoilett.
The Canadian forward (crucially not an international yet; his choice of country to play for has yet to be confirmed) has been at Rovers since the age of 13 but has enjoyed a breakout season this term and will be one of the top targets when the vultures come picking at the Blackburn corpse should they get relegated.
