Battle for gifted Gylfi

Swansea have arguably pulled off the signing of the season it seems with the loan capture of the brilliant talent of Gylfi Sigurdsson from Hoffenheim, but chairman Huw Jenkins has admitted to the BBC that his team face an almighty fight to keep hold of him in the summer.
After impressing under Brendan Rodgers at Reading, the Icelander has been re-united with the highly-rated manager this season and has been a massive hit, scoring seven goals in 15 appearances since January.
According to Sky Sports, Sigurdsson is happy enough to remain in the slick surroundings of the Liberty stadium, but Jenkins says it won’t be easy trying to persuade Hoffenheim to sell the 22 year old.
Jenkins, in an interview with BBC Radio Wales, cites the change in manager and Sigurdsson’s lengthy contract with the German club as the major stumbling blocks in trying to land a permanent deal for the man who has instigated his own goal of the season competition with some crackers for the Welsh club.
Sigurdsson’s inspired form could also attract the vulture-like claws of other clubs and Jenkins is aware of the competition, but he takes solace in the player’s Swansea experience and relationship with Brendan Rodgers as an indicator the Swans may get their man.
Another player who Jenkins sees trouble with landing is central-defender Steven Caulker who is on loan from Tottenham, with the BBC saying Swansea remain hopeful of having him back for a further year.
After failing to buy the 20 year old two years ago, Jenkins accepts his club has to make do with temporary deals and he hopes Caulker can sign up to build on his strong season in Wales just like the twinkled toed Sigurdsson.
