Susaeta attracting interest from the Premier League

Athletico Bilbao may have won one too many plaudits during this season’s Europa League campaign; the club from the Basque country have wowed fans all over the globe with their work rate and attractive style of play.

However with players such as Fernando Llorente and Javier Martinez catching the eye of some of the top clubs in the world Bilbao’s displays may have attracted just a little too much unwanted attention with reports in the Sun emerging today that winger Markel Susaeta could be available for as little as £6m.

After two sterling displays during the Europa League last 16 ties against Premier League champions Manchester United, it has thought Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United themselves now have Susaeta on their scope when the transfer window unlocks its padlock in the summer.

It is thought the Premier League sides thought to be interested will have to face stiff competition from aborad if they are to be successful in bringing in the midfielder with Real Madrid said to be interested in a replacement for Angel Di Mari if he decides to move on to pastures new during the summer.

Then there’s Paris Saint Germain, who have emerged as an up and coming force with boss Carlo Ancelotti thought to be keeping tabs on the player, as well as being linked with Arsenal’s Marouane Chamakh and Liverpool’s Joe Cole who is currently on loan at Ligue 1 rivals Lille.

Bilbao will face surely face a struggle if they are to keep hold of their star performers, but perhaps one thing they have in their favour is that it’s more of a wrench for top players to leave, due to the club adopting the policy of only having a squad that contrains players from the Basque region of Spain.

Atheltico Bilbao have earned the respect of many of Europe’s premier sides and look set to reach the semi-finals of the Europa League after they won 4-2 away at Schalke courtesy of two Llorente strikes during the quarter final first leg.
