McCarthy not ruling out Wolves return

Former Wolves manager Mick McCarthy hasn’t ruled out a shock return to the Molineux dugout this season with just eight games to go
McCarthy felt the full brunt of the board following the 5-1 home reverse to West Bromich Albion last month and after the best part of six years at the club was sacked, despite the side only being in the relegation zone at the time on goal difference.
So five matches later has McCarthy’s sacking being justified? In one word, no. If your going by results Wolves have amassed just a single point since his sacking and have suffered 5-0 defeats to Fulham and Manchester United, a poor run of results which has seen them sink to the bottom of the table with just eight games remaining.
When McCarthy was shown the exit door both Alan Curbishley and Walter Smith publicly stated they were not interested in the job, so Wolves had little choice if any of selecting a manager and interim boss Terry Connor has been thrown into the deep end.
When McCarthy departed Wolverhampton there were 13 matches remaining and Wolves had a realistic chance of survival and it’s fair to say they would have had a much better chance of staying up with him than without him.
When asked about a shock return to Wolves this season McCarthy said:“I would never say never, that is all I can say” McCarthy told radio station talksport.
“Stranger things have happened. Carlos Tevez played for Manchester City on Saturday.
“But I think that is a challenge for somebody else, I have done my time. I would never say never and someday it may happen but I don’t think that is going to be the case now and I am looking forward to a fresh challenge as well.”
