Chelsea reportedly planning Cristiano Ronaldo swoop

Chelsea could be set to launch an audacious £83.6m bid to bring the prolific Cristiano Ronaldo back to the Premier League in a deal which will also see Gonzalo Higuain make the move to Stamford Bridge as well.

The cheeky offer, reportedly up Chelsea owner rich-Russian Roman Ambramovich’s sleeve could stun English football if it were to be pulled off and spark envy from both Manchester clubs; City and United. Especially the latter, where Ronaldo spent six years prior to his move to the Bernabeau and was voted FIFA’s World Player of the Year.

The blues are never shy of splashing the cash with it only being in January last year that the West-Londoners paid £50m for the once deadly Fernando Torres who has endured another awful campaign where goal droughts have been more prominent than starting games.

After what can only be described as a disappointing league campaign for Chelsea, which see’s the side lie in fifth place, an overhaul of the squad is expected in the summer. Didier Drogba is expected to depart once his contract expires, whilst the likes of  Florent Malouda and even Daniel Sturridge has been touted to move on.

However the fate of Chelsea’s Ronaldo proposal could hinge on whether the club qualify for the Champions League next season and whether or not they can attract a big name manager after Andre Villas Boas was sacked earlier in the campaign.

If Chelsea decide to go forward with the offer, it can only add more fuel to the fire that enigmatic Madrid coach Jose Mourinho could follow suit and make a sensational return to Stamford Bridge, a move which would have rivals fearing the worst.

Whilst the signing of Argentine Higuain would also represent a step in the right direction for a Chelsea side looking to rebuild itself next term, the 24-year old is somewhat disillusioned at Real Madrid having fell out of favour behind Karim Benzema.
