Adebayor ISN’T boycotting Cup of Nations over money

Tottenham Hotspur forward Emmanuel Adebayor has dismissed claims that the reason he isn’t going to play is because of several disputes over unpaid bonuses made by Togo.

Adebayor has categorically said that money isn’t an issue for him and that the bonuses are only a £1000 a game anyway. The real reason for Adebayor is that he still suffers the trauma of 2010 when he saw team mates shot dead on the bus in Angola.

For the 28 year old he feels that the organisation or lack of it in the African tournaments isn’t good enough and that if he played in the tournament in January he would fear for his safety.

When the incident occurred in Angola three years ago, Adebayor was believed to have been the main target and that he had to get off the bus with a bulletproof vest and helmet on. That isn’t right in football and therefore Adebayor is happy to stay and compete in the Premier league.

Adebayor had previously retired from international football but returned to help his nation to give him the valuable experience he has in the sport. With the fears of safety when playing for Togo Adebayor may once again choose to put an end to his international football career.
