      Rodgers wants a Vrij geezer

One of the great things about the globalisation of football has meant the wealth of amusing punning in the tabloids at the expense of the slightly amusing names of foreign players.

Dutch centre-back Stefan de Vrij is just one of those players with the Sun reporting that de Vrij has caught the eye of Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.

The headline? “Vrij magnet for Rodgers”. Superb.

Anyway, the paper reports that the 20-year-old has been on the receiving end of glowing reports handed to Rodgers who is ready to make a move for the Dutchman in January.

De Vrij is already the captain of his club side Feyenoord and made his international debut three months ago his country, capping his rise.

The paper adds that Rodgers will also have to fight off interest from other clubs including Arsenal andChelsea and some undisclosed Bundesliga big guns.

De Vrij would cost £3.5million according to the paper or more if some kind of auction scenario occurs between Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and those aforementioned undisclosed Bundesliga giants.

Liverpool have been searching for a centre back which fits in to the Rodgers way of thinking and what better fit than a Dutch centre back- the nation that pretty much invented football played on the floor.
