      Di Matteo sacked

      Anyone entirely surprised by this?

Perhaps, after days of speculation that the self-titled "young, hungry, ambitious manager" Mark Hughes would be the first manager to receive his dreaded P.45, Chelsea's frankly embarasssing defeat last night to Juventus which left them on the brink of an early Champions League exit has seen Roberto Di Matteo sacked as coach according to the BBC.

Some would say we should have all seen this coming. After all, why would a club keep a man who had just won the Champions League and FA Cup double waiting until mid-June before deciding to extend his contract, and only then awarding him a two year deal for his troubles?

Frankly, the entire episode smacked of a lover scorned as Roman Abramovich's relentless pursuit of Pep Guardiola turned sour.

Did a late night drunken phone call from the Russian to Pep pave the way for the Di Matteo decision to be made last night?

Reports are emerging this morning that Rafa Benitez could be set to take interim charge of the reigning European Champions. One can only imagine what kind of late night phone-call between a Russian and a Spaniard that entailed!

Did Abramovich never seen Benitez's Liverpool side play? Hardly Barcelona-esque with Momo Sissoko keeping Steven Gerrard out of central-midfield!
