    Derby grab League One prospect

Rams boss Nigel Clough is hoping that his new youngster will have a bright future with the club after snatching him from Scunthorpe United’s youth system for an undisclosed fee.

Clough sent his scouting team to watch 16-year old Charles Vernam whilst the teenager was trying to make a name for himself at Glanford Park, and the moment he was offered a scholarship by the club, Derby staff rushed in to invite him to a tour of their state-of-the-art facilities.

Scunny officials are said to gutted that the whizz-kid chose to leg it from the club, but they reluctantly took the money as he was out of contract at the end of the season and would have been able to leave on a free.

The Iron are hoping Vernam turns out more like Michael Ricketts than Maradona.
