Downing's Liverpool career hitting brick wall

There are none more interesting scenarios in football off the pitch when a manager publicly criticises a member of his squad. Sadly for Downing he learned that Brendan Rodgers was verbally jabbing him in the face after a defeat.

Rodgers believes that Downing lacks 'fight' and 'commitment' to the cause whilst also (probably) commenting under his breath / mentally that he also lacks assists, goals and a foot to kick the ball with other than his left.

Surely that's no way to treat a £20 million winger Mr. Rodgers?
