Defoe about to jump ship once again?

Tottenham forward Jermain Defoe has been linked with yet another transfer in his career as he aims for regular first-team football.

Defoe must be wondering what more he can do to get into the Spurs starting XI at the moment; the England international has scored five goals in seven starts so far this campaign, but has sat on the bench for the last three matches - including Sunday's 3-1 victory over QPR.

Ironically, it is indeed the Hoops that have been mooted as a possible destination for the 29-year-old, with a reported £8 million bid being conjured up at Loftus Road. The former Portsmouth and West Ham striker has seen his appearances restricted thanks to the arrival of former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor and form of playmaker Rafael van der Vaart.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, who will miss tonight's Europa League clash with Rubin Kazan after undergoing minor heart surgery, said prior to the win over QPR that he felt sympathy for Defoe.

"I feel for Jermain at the moment," said Redknapp.

"It's almost unfair that he's not in the team but there is nothing we can do about that. He has been in magnificent form and he can't get in my team at the moment. He was almost unplayable in training this week, but Rafa has scored five in the last four.

"Jermain is a sensible lad. I am sure he will look at it and he will see how well Rafa is playing and Adebayor too. If you look at Rafa's goalscoring record it's incredible. He is just a great finisher. He is cool in front of goal and when the chances come he makes it look so easy. His two goals last week were world class."

Whilst Defoe has made no comment to signal his departure from White Hart Lane, he first left the club in January 2008 for being frozen out of the first-team. He returned to London a year later from Portsmouth after the appointment of Redknapp. Defoe has made 443 appearances in his career and scored 183 goals.

Do you think Defoe will move on in the January transfer window? Please leave a comment.
