Mourinho Eyes Young French Star - Why Chelsea Could Be About To Sign One Of The Brightest Prospects In Europe

A fee of £7 million may not seem like a lot given some of the transfer business of the last couple of seasons, but that is what Chelsea are reportedly set to pay for a young French midfielder.  According to the Independent, the Blues are considering a move for Adrien Rabiot of Paris Saint-Germain.

Rabiot has represented France right up to under-21 level despite only turning 19 in April.  That alone should show how highly rated the player is and why Chelsea may be interesting in signing him.

Previously spending a brief spell in England with Manchester City’s academy, Rabiot came through the ranks at PSG and has since featured 36 times for the club from the French capital.  The youngster has also gained Champions League experience along the way.

It is believed that his current employers do not wish to lose him, but the situation may be out of their hands after the player reportedly turned down the offer of a new deal.  A lack of gametime is said to be one of the reasons for this, which would make a move to Chelsea seem strange as there is no guarantee he would be any more likely to play at Stamford Bridge.

Whether Mourinho ends up signing the young talent is yet to be seen.  If the Portuguese manager does get Rabiot, though, it will be interesting to see what he does with the midfielder and if he can fit him into the Blues’ side.
