Manchester United Make £56m Bid For Striker - What Does That Mean For Rooney?

Manchester United are said to have made a whopping £56 million offer to Paris Saint Germain for the services of Edinson Cavani, according to the Metro. The Uruguay international is apparently admired by new Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal and the Netherlands manager wants the deal to be completed swiftly. But what does that mean for Wayne Rooney?

Robin van Persie is supposedly a top contender for the captain's armband that Nemanja Vidic is leaving behind, which would suggest that the attack would be built around the Dutch forward.

Van Gaal has traditionally preferred a 4-3-3 formation, using one focal point in the central area and quick, direct wingers on either side.

Cavani has played on the right of attack at PSG all season so you would assume that he would slot into the right wing berth should he arrive, and United have a wealth of options on the left. Adnan Januzaj will be a likely option, with Shinji Kagawa, Juan Mata and Antonio Valencia looking for a spot in the team.

Danny Welbeck would also be left out, while the likes of Nani and Ashley Young willl be sweating about their future.

And that's without even mentioning Rooney. Where would the United forward fit into the attack? For me, he doesn't - and that could be an indicator that he could be heading towards the Old Trafford exit.

i would personally drive wayne rooney out of old trafford even if we don,t sign any new attackers. as long as we buy quality middlefielders, we are sorted. rooney is a canniving diva.
