90% Pass Success, Six Clearances: How Gerrard Bossed Manchester City Clash To Keep Liverpool Top

The clip going round of Steven Gerrard after the Manchester City win sums the midfielder up perfectly. With his team-mates huddled round, the Liverpool skipper passionately got his point across about continuing their fine form - I say 'got his point across', I mean he was screaming at them to keep their individual displays up to a minimum level.

He certainly knows what is needed. The Reds' 3-2 win over City means that Liverpool are now within touching distance of a first Premier League trophy, and it was he who orchestrated the win.

If you didn't see the game, I will give you a brief glimpse of what he was about.

The most impressive thing, in my eyes, was his 90% pass completion. Gerrard attempted 40 passes during the 90 minutes and was successful in 36 of those. He also claimed an assist.

Gerrard also completed six clearances during the game and won all three of the tackles that he went in for - which made a huge difference in the central areas of the pitch.

His reading of the game was strong once more, as he made four interceptions.

For me he was the standout player on the pitch, and I hope these few statistics will help you get why.
