Why Mauricio Pochettino To Tottenham Could Be More Than A Mere Possibility

Even Tim Sherwood has conceded that it is unlikely he will be throwing his jacket about as head coach of Tottenham Hotspur next season.

In truth, he hasn't done too bad a job since taking over from Andre Villas-Boas but they still remain five points adrift from the much coveted fourth spot. Considering the money that was spent by the club in the summer, you would expect Champions League football to be mandatory on Daniel Levy's list of achievements for Spurs.

If Sherwood is able to somehow drag Spurs into the top four over the remaining five games then even that may not be enough to keep him as manager. Former Ajax manager Louis van Gaal has been widely touted as the next man to take the job and he possess a fine C.V. and a vast amount of experience.

There have been whispers, however, that should it not be van Gaal who is in line to take the current Spurs job then the club have their watchful eye on Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine has enjoyed a successful tenure on the south coast but he has yet to sign a new contract and this has led to speculation.

Allow me, if you will, to share a conspiracy theory regarding managerial hiring and firings in north London for the upcoming summer.

Perhaps, just perhaps, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has decided that he will call it a day at the end of the current season and the Gunners have already signed van Gaal behind closed doors. That would explain the emergence of the Pochettino story. As always, the off season will prove to be of extreme interest.
