Arsenal Lining Up Vermaelen Replacement - Here's Why Bundesliga Centre-Half Is Perfect Fit

It is being reported in the Mirror that Arsenal lead the chase for Freiburg's versatile defender Matthias Ginter, who is thought to be valued at around £8 million.

Ginter, who is remarkably still only 20 years of age, is the latest to come from the impressive German production line and bares an uncanny resemblance to Arsenal's Per Mertesacker. 

The youngster would be a perfect replacement for the current Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen, in my eyes, whose days seem numbered at the Emirates. The Belgian has found chances at a premium this campaign as he has struggled to challenge Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny for a spot in the side. 

The Freiburg centre-half has caught the eye of several of Europe's top clubs, according to the report, with Arsenal supposedly in pole position ahead of a likely move this summer. Ginter, now a capped German International, is expected to make the national side for the World Cup squad this summer which is sure to see is value increase.

The 6ft 3 inch defender would be a great fit for Arsenal. He is a solid defender, much like Mertesacker - his German compatriot, but is also reliable in possession and has a wide range of passing.

The German has been an ever-present for Freiburg set up since his move in 2012 and in my eyes is the ideal Vermaelen replacement.
