Will Manchester United Need A Top 4 Finish In Order To Attract Quality Players?

With Manchester United’s season well and truly buried following their 2-0 away loss to Greek side Olympiakos in the Champions League on Wednesday night, re-building for next season is already in full flow for manager David Moyes.

Reports of interest in Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marco Reus, however is met by some, with a quiet snigger.

If Manchester United fail to qualify for the Champions League next season, which it appears could very well happen, then they will seriously struggle to attract the top players to the club.

Despite having signed Juan Mata from Chelsea during the January transfer window, no doubt he has found life tough in Manchester whilst they are going through a transitional period following the retirement of Old Trafford legend, Sir Alex Ferguson.

One man who I think could help turn things around is Marco Reus, though I think it would be a mistake for him to jump from a side almost guaranteed to be in the Champions League next season to what appears to be a sinking ship.

Reus, a Champions League finalist with Borussia Dortmund last season, would have to weigh up life outside of the Champions League playing for a team who could need a long time to gel, a risk every football takes, or to hold out for other European clubs who could offer him a more realistic new challenge.

With the season fast drawing to a climax, dark times at Old Trafford could lie in wait for the United faithful, with more pressure than ever being piled on David Moyes to keep Manchester United at the pinnacle of world football.
