Rubbish: Why Many Of Us Expected Manchester United To Lose To Olympiakos

Manchester United have had a dreadful season. A phrase that has been unheard of for nearly 20 years. It is clear that new manager David Moyes is struggling to live up to the fans' expectations, with last night's embarrassing 2-0 defeat to Olympiakos the turning point for many fans who on radio phone-ins and social media have heavily criticised Moyes' tactical ability, as well as his team selections.

Lets go back to the start of the season. United had a very poor summer transfer window, with Marouane Fellaini the only signing at £27million. They, apparently, missed out on nearly all of their transfer targets and with a squad that has been desperate for fresh blood for nearly 3 years, the summer window was a catalogue of errors.

Defeats to West Brom, Newcastle and being humiliated 4-1 in the Manchester Derby meant Moyes was under pressure from an early stage. Losing to Swansea in the FA Cup at home was also a disaster, and losing out on penalties in the Capital One Cup semi final against Sunderland has only added to the fans' frustration.

Performances have been poor and although Olympiakos are by no means a force to be reckoned with, I personally was not at all surprised to see the Greek's come out on top. United have been predictable and slow all season, and last night was no different. In fact, it was the worst display from a United team in many many years.

There is no doubting that Moyes is still finding his feet and, in my view, deserves another summer window to have a major rebuild. If by this time next season, there is still no improvement then serious questions will have to be answered.
