Manchester United Ready To Step Up Defender Chase - Player Report

The Manchester United backline is set to undergo a re-shuffle this summer. Rafael, Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra - the first choice back four - are all out of contract at the end of the season, though it's unclear if they will all depart the club. However, David Moyes must be ready to structure a new defence in case and it seems that he is already starting to do so, as the Mirror say he is ready to setup up his pursuit of Porto centre-half Eliaquim Mangala.

But who is he, what is he about and how will he fit into the fold at Old Trafford?

The first thing you notice about the 23-year-old is his physical presence and how he bosses the game with his sheer strength and combative nature. His excessive force has sometimes proved to be his downfall, but on the majority of occasions it puts him on the front foot.

For a big man he is notably good with the ball on the floor, though, and the way he can open his body up and pick a pass would surely prove beneficial to the United side.

For me it would be a very strong signing. He's young, strong and good with the ball, so is a prime candidate to replace the aging legs already at the club.
