Giroud Isn't Good Enough To Lead Arsenal To The Premier League Title - Opinion

Arsenal are notably short in the striker department - I don't think there are many people arguing about that. Despite the fact they have topped the Premier League for the vast majority of the season, the Gunners have now slipped to second and could fall even further if Manchester City win their game in hand. A big part of Arsenal's season has been Olivier Giroud, who started the campaign in blistering form, but I am going against the grain here and am going to suggest that he is not good enough to lead the line for the Gunners if they want to win the league next season.

Don't get me wrong, I rate the France international. However, I don't think he is in the same class as the likes of Manchester City's Alvaro Negredo or Sergio Aguero, and I also think he falls short of quality in terms of those who I think will be competing for the title next year.

Liverpool have 23-goals Luis Suarez and 16-goal Daniel Sturridge, while Manchester United have Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, and I rate all of the above higher than Giroud.

He lacks agility, he struggles to take control in the big games and is often found lacking in the technique department, and I think if they are to overcome the challenge next season then at best he will have to be second choice to a new forward.

I also think Chelsea will strengthen their frontline in the summer, quite considerably too, so my message to Arsene Wenger is to act fast in order to bring in a new, world class centre-forward.

Jay, I completely agree with you. I don't know what Wenger's thinking is about winning a trophy for us this season, with Giroud leading the striking role. I just suppose at that at the moment Wenger unleashes Sanogo in that position, as Olivier gets some fitness.

I agree with both the above writers. With a better striker than Giroud, We would have been much further ahead in the league. I don't know what Wenger sees in Giroud, but keep playing him would not win us the league.

I agree with the above writers too, Giroud is not good enough for a tittle contender, he seems to be running around more when our opponents has the ball ,but then gets scared when our midfielders has the ball

Totally in agreement with the author. Giroud is not the top quality that Arsenal need. They need someone like Bergkamp, Henry, RvP. Even Adebayor would have been better, as he is proving it with the Spuds. They should have signed Higuain in the summer. Arsenal need to sign a new striker, someone like Lukakau, Martinez, and they should bring in Campbell from Olympiakos to add a different dimension

What kind of arsenal supporters are you guys, i feel like Giroud has done brilliantly, yes he is not scoring the goals but he is pivotal to the way we have played this season, he is more of a central forward that holds the ball then pass to the wings or midfield, he has done so excellently, the only thing is he does not have the finishing we need from a striker, but hey its his 2nd season, give him a chance, he might surprise you, it took King Henry to get used to it awhile before he has his shooting boots on. I feel we as True Arsenal Supporters should be supporting the players not criticizing them. Support the team through the bad times and the good times. No matter who the player is support them because they play for your team and the support would go a long way!!
