Moyes Hints At Ferdinand Deal, But Should He Be Given The Boot?

With rumours floating about regarding Rio Ferdinand and his retirement from the game, it was left up to David Moyes to come out and clear the air. He has now done that, as the Metro report the former Everton boss has rubbished the speculation. So, with Moyes hinting that Ferdinand will stay beyond the summer, despite his contract expiring at the end of the season, I got thinking whether or not he should be staying at Old Trafford.

Ferdinand is past his best, I don't think many will argue against that. Once renowned for his pace, composure on the ball and domineering presence in the air, he has now got a bit of a reputation for being a calamity.

His legs are giving up on him, although that's natural for a 35-year-old, but his confidence seems drained right now.

For me Ferdinand should be given the boot. With Phil Jones the future of the defence, in my eyes anyway, and Jonny Evans a better option than Ferdinand, I would look to sign a young, ball-playing centre-back in the summer.

Perhaps Eliaquim Mangala or Raphael Varane, but whoever they get in would surely be a better option for the club in the long term.

Imagine Sergio Aguero running at a 36-year-old Rio Ferdinand next season - frightening.
