Why Tottenham Signing Lescott Could Be The Perfect Move

After nearly 500 games in club football, over half of which have been in the Premier League, Joleon Lescott has established himself as one of the top English centre-backs in the country. Now, though, he finds himself in the background at Manchester City and having his name thrown about by the press in regards to a move away from the Etihad. One of the clubs mentioned is Tottenham, in the Mirror anyway, and I think that it could be a match made in heaven.

Lescott may not be the quickest defender in the league, but I wouldn't label him a slouch. He is often positioned well which allows him to cover most circumstances. He has quick feet too, as he has shown on a few occasions this term.

He has made eight appearances this season in the top tier and has averaged seven defensive actions per game. His strong frame has allowed him to win 10 of his 19 games this season, 11 of his 17 headed duels and he has got his team-mates out of a few problems.

The reason I feel so strongly for a move to Tottenham is the fact that their defensive record this season has been so poor and Lescott's distribution. He has completed 88% of his passes in his eight games and generally links up with the midfield well.

He's also a threat at set-pieces, which can only benefit Tim Sherwood's men.
