Lewis Holtby vs Gylfi Sigurdsson - The statistics

The amount of quality in the Tottenham midfield at present is embarrassing, and Gareth Bale isn't even in the squad any more! Andre Villas-Boas holds the likes of Aaron Lennon, Andros Townsend, Nacer Chadli and Erik Lamela on the wings, while Sandro, Paulinho and Etienne Capoue hold the fort in the central areas. Then, the north London outfit hold such names as Christian Eriksen and Mousa Dembele pushing on, while Lewis Holtby and Gylfi Sigurdsson also battle it out for a place in the side. And it is the latter two I want to concentrate on, and figure out who has the better statistics.

Note the majority of stats are from last season, as Holtby has missed a large chunk of this through injury.

Last term the German made just 11 appearances for Spurs after arriving in January but showed how important he could potentially be. He created 12 chances for his colleagues, completed 84% of his passes and won 11/14 tackles, although that's not strictly his job.

There's no doubting that he has a bit of sparkle about him, and with a run of games we may finally see that.

Switching to the Iceland international, Sigurdsson, he was much more involved. In his 33 Premier League appearances he sculpted 25 chances, scored three and completed 80% of his passes. He's shone this season so far, too.

In his four games he has scored twice, created six opportunities and completed 85% of his passes. He's also hit the target with 78% of his shots. Not bad, eh?

Spurs fans, if you could choose just one to be in your team from the two, who would it be?

They play in different positions! Holtby plays in the hole - Sigurdsson as our inverted left attacking midfielder. So it's not a choice between the two. Personally my first choices would be Chadli on the left (more natural there and has a left foot) and Eriksen in the hole, although Holtby is really pushing him there and should come on as a sub in most games.

I think a midfield three of
    Siggy Erikson Holtby
    Sandro Dembele

is an option, Townsend is good but these three in the attacking positions offer fluidity in their movement, being able to swap positions and create triangles in attack and could really work.
