Top 5 Best British Stadiums For Atmosphere

Since I’ve not had the time to measure decibels of noise from each stadium, calculate the mean and variance of that value, then organise those results in order... the list is in no particular order, and I’d be surprised if anyone agrees with all of my choices, but here we go:

Liberty Stadium, Swansea City: On my only visit, the noise generated was really something! A small and compact stadium, certainly for Premier League standards, and the constant noise made by the home fans is also rare from a topflight club. It's surely helped in the rise of Swansea over the past few years.

Fratton Park, Portsmouth: ‘Fortress Fratton’ or words to that effect may not describe the awful record Pompey have had on the field since their FA Cup win in 2008. Nevertheless it does still correctly explain what you’re up against as an away supporter going down to the South Coast. The home fans are lead by John Anthony ‘Portsmouth Football Club’ Westwood (the gentleman with a bell, large hat, multiple tattoos, sometimes with his drum, a waistcoat, blue and white shorts etc.)

Parkhead, Celtic: With their league campaign so one sided, those in green and white could be forgiven for not creating the usual atmospheres generated inside Celtic Park. Although; as we’ve already seen this season in the Champions League, there isn’t much better sights in British football than a packed out Parkhead.

Loftus Road, QPR: Often associated as one of the worst grounds known to man, located in the middle of a housing estate and a concourse you'd expect from a non-league side. Aside from all that, Loftus is a very compact stadium and easy for both sets of supporters to fill the ground with noise. This is partly due to the quite unique approach of 2 tiers on 3 sides of the ground with the capacity just 18,000.

Selhurst Park, Crystal Palace: Home to the best ‘Ultras’ in these shores – hands down. Those home fans will be key to The Eagles' survival hopes and if they carry on their constant drone of support from August when Spurs and Sunderland were the visitors, Holloway’s lads have every chance of survival.
