    Juan Mata or Wayne Rooney? The Statistics

    With reports reaching us that Manchester United have opened informal discussions with Chelsea over a possible deal for Wayne Rooney, we take a look at the statistics to decide who we'd rather have in our side - Rooney, or Juan Mata, who United apparently want to come in the other way.

    Mata was awarded with the Chelsea Player of the Year last time out after an incredible campaign. The skillful Spaniard scored 12 goals in 35 league games, but he netted an additional eight in other competitions. Rooney matched that league tally, in fewer games, but was unable to create anywhere near the amount of chances as the Chelsea man.

    Mata sculpted 95 opportunities for his colleagues while Rooney just 49.

    Both players were deployed in one of the three slots behind the striker and were influential in last season's success. Although Rooney didn't grab the headlines as much as Robin van Persie, his performances were still vital to Sir Alex Ferguson signing off at Old Trafford with a title win.

    Mata's duel success was also superior to Rooney's - 55% to 41% respectively - and his pass completion was also slightly higher - 85% to 83%.

    If it was a choice between the two I would lean towards Mata. He's proved himself to be an incredible player with an impressive attitude. He is also two years younger than Rooney.

    There really is no reason that Jose Mourinho needs rid of the star, but it all depends on how desperately he wants to land Rooney.

    What do you reckon?

    Juan Mata is obviously superior to Wayne Rooney considering the stats. Any suggestions of a swap of Mata for Rooney is laughable and in bad taste.

    Swap deal with Mata involved is not acceptable,if they want to sale Rooney it's up to them to sale,there's no need trying a save-face kind of deal offer,which they know in their heart would not happen,or they should keep Rooney an unhappy player and deal with the consequence of keeping an unhappy player in your team,that's up to them!

    we need a fox in the box, a merciless finisher, a snapper; so eto'o checks all the boxes ; he should be still top for a few good years;

    There is no need beating around the bush let United go straight to the point if they want to do business its up to them and if they are not there is alternative for Blue.Mata goes nowhere.

    Jose dn gve juan mata to manchester united u wil regret it
