3 Reasons Why Arsenal Should Forget About Midfield Target

Arsenal's bid for Newcastle's Yohan Cabaye has rattled a few cages up in the North East, but is the French midfielder really what Arsene Wenger needs right now? Here are three reasons why I think not.

    1) Priorities, Arsene

Arsenal need a prolific forward if they are serious about challenging for silverware this season. Although Olivier Giroud lead the line impressively against Aston Villa on Saturday, the Gunners need a marquee signing to inflate the morale around the club and to ultimately fire them into the top three.

They missed out of Gonzalo Higuain, David Villa and Luis Suarez, and to suddenly switch their attention to a midfielder seems strange.

    2) Enforcer, don't force it

Gary Neville made a remark during Monday Night Football last night that Arsenal's demise is largely down to fact that they have failed to replace Patrick Vieira. The drive that the former skipper provided whilst at the club was instrumental to Arsenal's success.

Cabaye is a delicate player, threading balls between defenders and sparking opportunities. He does not possess the bite or the engine that the Gunners need. Cabaye is more of a ballerina than an enforcer.

    3) Game changer

As technically brilliant as Cabaye is, he's not a player who will take the game by the scruff of the neck and guide Arsenal to victory.

How many times have we seen the Gunners pitifully collapse in the Premier League? They often look toothless, and unless they sign a player able to change the game whenever they like then they will continue to struggle.

We have enough silky play makers. It is other positions we need to strengthen and we all know which they are. Well I don't suppose the Board knows ... they are dictated to by Wenger.
