Dream XI who may miss out on the World Cup

Playing in the World Cup is a dream for any player and some of the Worlds greatest will be on show next summer. However a lot of players will miss out however, and I have compiled this dream team of players who may not be on the plane. Playing in a 4-3-3 formation, would this team of World Cup rejects be good enough to go the whole way?

    GK- Petr Cech- Czech Republic

Cech has won 100 caps for the Czech national team, and often captains the national side- however the Chelsea keeper may have more time off than he would have liked next summer. Unlucky to be drawn in a difficult group that includes Italy, Bulgaria and Denmark; the Czech Republic currently lie third in their European group. However they do have a game in hand over second place Bulgaria, so could yet progress.

    CB- Daniel Agger- Denmark

Agger has played 56 times for his international side and been to two major tournaments for Denmark, however in a tough qualifying group Denmark are in danger of again missing out.

    CB- Nemanja Vidic- Serbia

Vidic officially retired from international duty in 2011 after falling out of love with the Serbian fans, but has been widely rumoured to return to the fold with new coach Sinisa Mihajilovic if the Serbs qualify for Brazil. However with Serbia currently lying a distant third of Europe’s Group A, 9 points behind Belgium and Croatia, it seems Vidic’s international career may be over.

    CB- Seamus Coleman- Ireland

Coleman was the Man of the Match in Ireland’s recent friendly against England, and the Everton defender has become a prominent figure in a youthful Irish side hoping to qualify for Brazil. However with Ireland currently sitting fourth they face an uphill struggle to qualify for the finals.

    LM- Adel Taarabt- Morocco

The enigmatic winger often frustrates and dazzles in equal measures for QPR, and has been just as inconsistent for Morocco. Few can doubt the skills of the winger however, and he would be missed should the Atlas Lions not qualify for Brazil. Morocco currently lie third in their pool, with only one team to qualify; so Taarabt has his work cut out if his team are going to qualify.

    CM- Michael Essien- Ghana

30-year-old Essien missed the last World Cup due to injury, which was a shame as the Black Stars were able to qualify for the Quarter Finals. The Real Madrid midfielder missed the recent Africa Cup of Nations, but would be keen to bow out of the international scene in a final World Cup for Ghana. However qualification is proving difficult for his side as Ghana currently trail Zambia with only one game to play.

    CM- Arturo Vidal- Chile

Vidal was voted Serie-A player of the year for his box-to-box performances for Juventus this campaign and is considered one of the World’s most exciting midfielders. But in a tight South American table Vidal is at risk of missing out in Brazil.

    RM- Edison Cavani- Uruguay

Cavani plays deeper role for his country, but the Napoli forward is no less important to the side. Uruguay currently lie a distant sixth in the South American standings and will have to raise their game to progress to the finals.

    CF- Javier Hernandez- Mexico

Three draws and no victories have not been good enough for Mexico, who lie a long way off the pace in the Central American qualifying zone. More goals are needed from the Manchester United star for Mexico to progress.

    CF- Robert Lewandowski- Poland

Lewandowski has been in sensational form for Borussia Dortmund this season, and is widely tipped to leave Dortmund this summer. However, despite being one of the world’s most complete and clinical strikers- Lewandowski may miss out on the biggest stage of all. Drawn in the same group as England, Poland lie third on 8 points- but do have a game in hand over their rivals. Poland will be relying on Lewandowski’s goals to progress.

    CF- Emmanuel Adebayor- Togo

Adebayor made his Togo debut at the age of 16, and is one of Togo’s few marquee players. His return to the national fold has made little impact however, and the Sparrow Hawks lie bottom of their pool, with a miracle required to qualify.
