David Trezeguet - Remembering a French Hero (Video)

With Juve combing Europe in search of a reliable goal scorer, it’s worth noting how the Old Lady has consistently looked to France to fulfil its goal-scoring needs.

Indeed, as late as January they turned to the much-travelled Nicolas Anelka, despite already having Mirko Vuvinic, Sebastian Giovinco, Alessandro Matri, the unpredictable Fabio Quagliarella and the branded-boxer-short-revealing loanee Nicklas Bentner. Before he left to join Real Madrid’s ‘galactico’, Zinedine Zidane was Juve’s main creative midfielder and in the eighties Michel Platini occupied the same role to devastating effect. The great Thierry Henry also stopped by Turin briefly on his way to Highbury.

But one of the darlings of Juve fans is the goal machine that is David Trezeguet. He made his bow in the Serie A a year after Henry and took just two seasons to win the golden boot. Apart from the goals, fans also appreciated the loyalty the Frenchman showed in sticking with them when the club was banished to Serie B as punishment for match-fixing. He helped them back up and kept banging them in to become the Old Lady’s top non-Italian marksman of all time and the fourth overall. These are the standards fans will be hoping transfer target Higuain will attain if he does indeed sign.

And if you needed a reminder of Trezeguet’s prowess, spare a minute to watch this clip.
