Arsenal legend continues to baffle with his words

Like some demented Trappist monk given 24 hours latitude from the Benedictine instruction, Tony Adams at the moment is a man that just can’t stop talking.

The former Arsenal captain has apparently decided that he is the self appointed voice for all Arsenal related subjects.

The Sun reported the commencement of his verbal assault with Adams relaying his disappointment at not being appointed to the board: “I thought I ticked boxes, so I wrote to Peter and said ‘I’ve got a statue outside and I know a bit about the club’s principles and values.”

After making such a compelling case, I too like Tony was mystified as to why they didn’t take him up on his kind offer!

“I didn’t hear anything back, which was unusual for Peter.”

    You surprise me Tony, really?!

Adams then continued his best Spud interview from Trainspotting impression with an attack on the club he wishes to join the board of.

In relation to Arsenal breaking their eight year abstinence and touching silver again, the former North Bank hero didn’t seem too hopeful: “I can’t see it, to be honest. They are MILES off a title.”

I might want to take a look at that letter you wrote Tone, some people might misinterpret your idea of positivity!

The Metro then reported the big ex defender’s declaration of his feelings towards Laurent Koscielny. “I hate labeling people.”

He then proceeds to label people: “He reminds me a lot of Martin Keown. To put Koscielny in the same category is an enormous compliment I think.”

Far be it for me to argue with what you think Tone.

Wayne Rooney was the next on the receiving end of the gospel according to Tone. The Sun reported Adams concerns about whether the England star could cope with a move to the capital:”London is a different animal and it takes a different type of player.

“Technically he’s fantastic but I’m not sure about him mentally, off the pitch, and his professionalism. “

    Um...what?!  No seriously... what?!

Let’s assume that Adams doesn’t know Wayne Rooney, then what possible basis could he have for such a ridiculous comment.

If he does know Wayne then you would imagine that a quiet word in the Scouser’s ear stating his doubts would have been preferable to a piece in a national paper.

With Rooney playing for the biggest club in the country, one of the biggest in the world and having carried the footballing hopes of an entire nation for the last ten years, I’m not convinced that a move down south would send him over the edge.

Don’t judge everyone by your own standards Tone, and maybe take a trip to Liverpool or Manchester, the last time I checked they were big cities too now you know.

Adams then appeared to contradict himself with his next quote: “I know Sir Alex Ferguson has dealt with Wayne brilliantly over the last few years and I’m sure Arsene Wenger could handle him.”

    Then what’s your problem?!

Adams then sought to underline his player knowledge credentials, presumably thinking his spells in charge of Wycombe and Portsmouth weren’t enough of an insight.

He spoke of the Gunners move for Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain, 107 goals in 187 games for Real Madrid, 20 in 32 internationals for his country: “My fear is that if Real don’t want him, you are coming in under that.

“If you want to compete with Real Madrid you don’t get their cast-offs. You need the best players in the league to win the league.”

I’m not sure I even need to comment here do I.

He continued: “The finance is there but Arsene should restructure a bit to put four or five players on top, top money, rather than a lot of players on £50,000 a week. Put a few on a hundred thousand-odd and get top players in the spine of the team.”

Er... Tone, not being funny but...Higuain...that’s exactly what they are doing.

I have every respect for the way that Adams turned his life around after his youthful misdemeanors
and I do enjoy his deep thinking ways but please Tone think before you speak before you confide.
