Top 5 Champions League Goal Scorers 2012-13 (Video)

After Bayern Munich ran out Champions League victors beating Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in the final, let’s now take a look at the top five goal scorers in the competition and see who picked up the coveted Champions League Golden Boot 2012-13.

    5. Thomas Muller – Bayern Munich (8 goals, 13 games)

Muller showed that he is a big game player once again in this competition for the eventual winners Bayern, scoring one goal against Juventus in the quarter-finals and two against Barcelona in the semi-finals. He has plenty of years left at the top level too, as he is still just 23-years-old.

    4. Lionel Messi – Barcelona (8 goals, 11 games)

Messi became the second highest scorer ever in Champions League history this season after scoring two in the famous comeback against AC Milan. 8 goals is a great return in this competition but by Messi’s standards it is poor when compared to his two previous seasons.

    3. Burak Yilmaz – Galatasaray (8 goals, 9 games)

Yilmaz was a revelation as Galatasaray reached the quarter-finals. He scored 6 goals in the group stage including a perfect hat-trick away at Cluj and has been linked with a move to a top European club ever since.

    2. Robert Lewandowski – Borussia Dortmund (10 goals, 12 games)

A real breakthrough season for Lewandowski as the whole of Europe realised what a special striker he is. His four goals against Real Madrid in the semi-final first leg will surely never be repeated.

    1. Cristiano Ronaldo – Real Madrid (12 goals, 12 games)

Ronaldo takes the golden boot off his famous rival Messi this year with 12 goals in as many games. His magical record proved to be to no avail in the end as Real Madrid lost out to runners-up Dortmund in the semi-final but on an individual level, Ronaldo had a fantastic Champions League campaign.
