Arsenal ready to offer £22m for 16 goal striker (video)

Arsenal are said to be looking for a big-name striker before the new season begins and they seem to have found him. Real Madrid's Gonzalo Higuain is the man I refer to, and the Mirror are reporting that a £22m bid will be made from the Gunners chiefs this week despite Los Blancos president Florentino Perez claiming not even £25.5m would not be enough to strike a deal.

Perhaps mind games, perhaps not. But what we do know it that you often get what you pay for and if the Argentina international fired the club to the Premier League title then a fee of around that value would look like chicken feed.

The 25-year-old scored 16 goals in 28 La Liga goals last season and claimed five assists but is thought to be on his way out of the Santiago Bernabeu this summer with the Gunners and Juventus ready to battle it out. However, the north London side are said to be in the driver's seat as the Serie A champions are unwilling to splash the cash as Fernando Llorente arrives in Turin in the coming weeks.

We can only imagine that Theo Walcott is reading reports and cursing his luck as he continues to plea for a centre-forward position.
