Tottenham set sights on Brazilian pair, but how will they rate against previous compatriots?

Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas is set to make an audatious swoop for Brazilian pair Doria and Paulinho according to reports from the Mirror.

Spurs are looking to offload Scott Parker and perhaps Tom Huddlestone in order to carve some room for more attacking outlets in the middle of the field and Corinthians midfielder Paulinho is certainly that, and with the backline in need of serious additions Doria of Botafogo will provide AVB with some fresh options, should the respective deals go through that is.

It is seldom that we get a standout Brazilian in the Premier League. Recent additions we have had have failed miserably, Robinho of Manchester City, Afonso Alves when Middlesbrough were a topflight team and Arsenal gaffe Andre Santos have all tried and whimpered away with their tails between their legs. Other examples come in the shape of Manchester City man Elano, Chelsea's Alex and Manchester United's Kleberson.

However, for every 10 Juliano Bellettis we get we are gifted with a Philippe Coutinho, a Rafael Da Silva or a Gilberto Silva, and the two targets mentioned are certainly regarded as one of those, especially Doria.

The young centre-back is widely tipped to be one of the most exciting prospects around at the moment and Franco Baldini will be doing everything in his power to snap him up.

Will the duo join the likes of compatriots Lucas and Ramires in making a positive impact on the league?
