Tottenham put ten players up for sale - check the list here

According to The Metro Andre Villas-Boas has told several Tottenham players they will be allowed to leave the club this summer.

On the for sale list apparently are the likes of Scott Parker, Jermaine Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor.

Now, there may not be too many nights sleep lost amongst Spurs fans at the exits of these players, but if the ten players listed are to leave it could leave AVB’s squad somewhat thin on the ground.

At times last season Tottenham were hopelessly reliant on Gareth Bale to provide them with any kind of attacking thrust  and even though players like Defoe and Adebayor hardly lit up the league with their goals, replacements will be needed to fill the attacking berths.

Again, the departure of Parker will be no great loss to AVB, the man is a hangover from the Redknapp era, a player who consistently slows down Tottenham’s attacks. His place in the starting eleven will be more than adequately filled by Sandro’s return from injury, but rumorus of his replacement in the squad with

Gareth Barry should send chills down the spines of level-headed Spurs fans.

Wasting £4m on Barry would be a backwards step for the club who should be eyeing more ambitious moves than cut price deals for a pedestrian 32-year-old.

The full list of players who AVB will apparently attempt to move on before the end of the transfer window also includes Tom Huddlestone, Iago Falque, Andros Townsend, Beniot Assou-Ekotto, Bongani Khumalo and goalkeepers Heurelho Gomes and Brad Friedel.

The inclusion of Townsend on this list is something of a surprise with the winger impressing while on loan at QPR last season.

Townsend was a bright spark in an otherwise dreadful QPR side showing plenty of ambition and dribbling talent on the flanks.

With Spurs short on cover on the wings, even playing Clint Dempsey and Gylfi Sigurdsson in unnatural positions on the left when Gareth Bale decides to romp into the centre, Townsend would surely provide useful back-up and competition in the squad.

Although this is a big cleanout, it would be noteworthy that Spurs are slow to sell off excess baggage and slow to finish arrangements to fill the squad for next season. This method of doing business is really risky this Summer. People need to be in place for plotting the season's tactics. If the striker situation is not settled earlier rather than later, then there could be real trouble to start next August.
BAE should be kept unless his sale will be a net gain of considerable amount , say to a Turkish giant. If Bale is kept, a lot of money will still need to be found to replace 8 to 10 first line players and immediate backups. Nevertheless, Defoe, Adebayor, Parker, Huddlestone and certain others are NOT the material of High Caliber squads. So it is about time that the scouting system do something positive and find some new and capable workers a la Newcastle so the bill for incoming talent won't break the bank

Buying Gareth Barry is a backward step. He's the sort o one or two season stop-gap that Redknapp would buy.
