    Gianluigi Buffon: A look back

There are many great shot-stoppers out there but today, we only focus on one, that is the the great Gianluigi Buffon.

The Juventus captain started his career in 1991 with Parma youth team, not long after that he was playing for them in the top flight of Serie A. The Bianconeri were on a lookout for a new keeper as Edwin Van Der Sar's time with the Old lady was coming to an end, but we all know that did not end their for him, as Manchester United purchased him and he served them very well.

Back in 2001, Buffon was sold to Juventus for a record breaking 51 mil euros with part of the transfer being another player of Juventus moving the other way, that being Jonathan Bachini.

He has also been named the Serie A Goalkeeper of the year a record nine times

The 35-year-old would spend 13 seasons with the current Italian champions and now has extended to 2015, he is very happy at Turin, he has been through alot with the team being relegated down to Serie B.

Not having many games aired in the Serie B, Buffon would lead his team along with Alessandro Del Piero back up into Serie A for contention for the Scudetto.

The Italian international has served his country well by appearing in 128 games for the Azzurri and has always given his 110% when playing.

There will only ever be one Gianluigi Buffon and who ever takes the reins as goal keeper for Juventus has to fill some very big shoes.

In my opinion, I hope he plays until he is 40, he has still got the skill and leadership that every team needs on the pitch.
