Tottenham brace themselves as Real Madrid prepare £85m bid for Bale

Tottenham fans have the right to feel worried about the future of Gareth Bale as Real Madrid reveal that the £85m price tag that has been slapped on the Welshman's head won't stop them from bidding, according to the Sun. The club shattered the transfer record when they signed Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United back in 2009 for an enormous £80m but they also broke the records previously with Luis Figo, Zinedine Zidane and Kaka.

Bale has had an extraordinary 2013 so far. The 23-year-old has scored 12 league goals since the turn of the year, which is remarkable considering he scored nine earlier in the season, and he also bagged a treble of awards. He was named PFA Young Player of the Year, PFA Players Player of the Year and FWA Footballer of the Year and the attention naturally attracted the big guns around European football.

Madrid have been interested in securing the winger dubbed as the new Cristiano Ronaldo for some time now, and president Florentino Perez has revealed that the huge price to pay makes no difference to them and also spoke of his strong relationship between himself and Daniel Levy.

He said: “For those players and investments that generate and produce income, you can give everything in life.

“I showed in 2000 that with those players you change the dynamic and go from losing to winning.

“But we don’t speak of Bale so much because he plays at a friendly club to us and they will be annoyed if we speak. I know their chairman well and he doesn’t like these things.”
