3 reasons why Chelsea need to forget about Robert Lewandowski and offer for £55m striker

The whispers of Robert Lewandowski making a sensational switch to Chelsea when Jose Mourinho takes over the reins at Stamford Bridge are getting a little out of hand, with some Blues fans smugly believing that it is a done deal. However, it is likely that the Polish ace will end up with his current teammate Mario Gotze at Bayern Munich, so here are three reasons why Roman Abramovich should turn his attention away from Lewandowski and towards Napoli goal-gobbler Edinson Cavani.

    1) Napoli raising the white flag

The fact that the Serie A side have conceded defeat in the fact that Cavani will be leaving sooner rather than later can only help those chasing his signature. A fee of about £55m may be in order to secure the Urugauyan's services, but considering they spent close to that on a floundering Fernando Torres tells you that they are not scared of taking risks with money.

    2) Goals Gals Goals

It has been hard to read a newspaper or football site without reading articles about how many goals Robert Lewandowski is netting right now, but not many pointing out that Cavani actually has three more league goals than the Poland international. Cavani's 26 goals in 31 Serie A games this term is nothing short of incredible, and although Lewandowski's 23 in 29 is mightily impressive, the South American just edges is on league goals.

    3) Versatility

As well as being a natural in the lone striker role, something which has become the norm in modern day football, Cavani can play on either wing. His speed makes him a nuisance down the flanks and his intelligence on the ball allows him to make defenders look like fools when they try to match him. Lewandowski is prominently a out-and-out striker but he has been known to drift back to collect the ball.

3 reasons Lewy would be wiser signing

    1. Age, Lewandowski is younger than Cavani and falcao

    2. Fee, with 25mil fee, he's much cheaper than Cavani and Falcao. He comes with lower wage demand as well. Big money signings come withhigher expectation and puts extra burden on players, and puts the club in difficulties to cash them if they meant to flop. See Shevchenko or Torres to a certain degree. Also there is little something called FFP to kick in.

3.Goals goals ans goals, If penalties are deducted -Lewandowski has highest number of goals compared to Cavani. Also he racks up more assists.

I agree with Matt and disagree with the article. Lewandowski is a far better option. The age verses cash issue is very important. If Chelsea is going to spend big money they must spend it on players that are in their early twenties and not their late twenties. It must be a player that can give many years service, this is especially important with FFP. And I think Chelsea know this, that is why they spent big on Hazard and Oscar, but spent a lot less on Ba (who is 27). Paying big for a guy like Torres is a thing of the past. Lewandowski comes with huge talent at 24 yrs and at a price of 25m. That is what we paid for Oscar. This is what makes sense. Falcao and Cavani come at crazy prices and can only have 3 years before they hit 30 and one year contracts. Hulk is not much better. This makes no sense.

The author of this article can not support Chelsea or watch football enough and does not seem to understand how much Lewandowski fits the team we have and is a much much wiser choice that Cavani, if you watched Dortmund vs. Real Madrid you would see this.
