Mancini in the dark over Manchester City future

Roberto Mancini has cast fresh doubt over his future as Manchester City boss by claiming he has been given no assurances by the club's hierarchy that he will remain beyond the end of this season.

The Italian has insisted that he had no concerns over his future, despite speculation linking the club with Malaga coach Manuel Pellegrini. City's failure to retain the Premier League title and progress beyond the group stage of the Champions League this season has placed Mancini’s job under scrutiny, yet victory in next Saturday’s FA Cup final against Wigan Athletic would ensure silverware for the third successive season.

Last season's Premier League champions currently sit 2nd and trail their Manchester neighbours by 13 points and it is safe to say that it has been a bitterly disappointing campaign for them. However, sacking Mancini now wouldn't make too sense at all. He has brought trophies to City and has built a title-winning squad.

One of the biggest disappointments during Mancini's reign has been their two successive Champions League exits. If Mancini is still in charge next season then it is vital that City make it through their Champions League group third time lucky. If they fail to do so then Mancini's job will come under even more scrutiny this time next year.

City, who drew 0-0 at Swansea yesterday, are also said to be willing to let Scott Sinclair leave at the end of the season after starting just two Premier League games this campaign having signed for £6million from Swansea last summer.
