    Liverpool lead race for forward

It seems Porto will once again be left with a repair job on their hands this summer for Sky Sports News are indicating that Liverpool lead a line of a number of clubs chasing Christian Atsu. This news comes only days after the Portuguese champions were raided by money bags Monaco for key duo Joao Moutinho and Christian Rodriguez.

Losing key players is nothing new of course to Porto for it has become rare that they have not lost their key players during the transfer window, with the European vultures never far from picking off their seamlessly endless supply of unearthed talent. That said it is not all bad news for the £60 million they received from Monaco should supply their strong scouting networks with enough funds to bring in more than a couple of strong replacements.

Atsu's exit has been in truth on the radar for some time given that Porto have been unable to talk the young Ghana international into signing a new deal that included a substantial release clause. For Liverpool he fits their new vision of signing young players who can be developed further and to get him ahead of several other Premier League players would certainly be a coup.

Whether he would be a first team regular remains to be seen given Liverpool do have a fair share of wingers, although Phillippe Coutinho is the only one who looks a nailed on starter. Stewart Downing although he has found his form in the second half of this season still is yet to convince whilst Raheem Sterling is still very raw so Atsu might be confident of securing a birth. Nevertheless if Anfield followers found Downing to be a frustration then Atsu will provide no cure, for currently he is a player who possess vast inconsistency and whilst having all the pace to burn this does not always transfer into an end product.
