Wayne Rooney's 5 greatest goals (videos)

Wayne Rooney - the striker carving a career at the very highest level in football since the age of nine. From the time he joined Everton as a youngster fans and media outlets had the young man down to be a global superstar. During his stint at Goodison Park, Rooney played 77 games and scored 17 goals in total, with 15 of those coming in the league.

His form earned him a mega money move to Manchester United, where his potential blossomed and he flourished under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson.

He has gone on to play almost 500 games for the Old Trafford outfit, scoring 214 goals in that time. Rooney has become an integral part of Fergie's Manchester United because of his versitility. The Liverpool-born man can play as a lone striker, in wider positions, or just behind the centre-forward, but he is equally effective in any of those roles.

Despite still being 27, Rooney has earned himself 80 caps and 34 goals for England, and has captained them on numerous occasions.

His passion for the game and his desire to win have caused him a few problems down the years, but there are no arguments that Wayne Rooney has been a massive asset to English football over the last decade.
