Van Wolfswinkel is a great coup for Norwich

Second season syndrome is often a difficult trait for any club to overcome. Having survived a first season in the Premier League, the onus is on teams to stave off the threat of relegation for the second, something a number of teams fall foul to.

However, under the stewardship of Chris Hughton, Norwich City look set to secure their Premier League safety over the coming weeks. There may've been difficulties on the way to doing so, but with the likelihood of QPR and Wigan set to drop down a division, a third year of top flight football is all but guaranteed.

And Hughton already appears adamant to build upon that following the signing of Ricky van Wolfswinkel. The Dutchman recently signed a four year deal with the Canaries having been strongly linked with a move to Carrow Road in January and will move to Norwich once the transfer window reopens.

With Grant Holt under performing and the striking options available to Hughton failing to deliver, a new striking acquisition comes as no real shock to any. Van Wolfswinkel's goalscoring record with Sporting may not be the best, but for a team that needs goals from the frontmen, the signing of the Dutchman represents a superb coup for the Canaries.
