Reading no go for Di Canio

Italian maverick Paolo Di Canio has admitted that his trip to Reading's Madjeski Stadium on Saturday had nothing to do with the vacant managers position at the club.

Since leaving League One side Swindon Town, the 44-year-old manager has been linked with every possible job available.

However following the recent dismissal of Brian McDermott, Di Canio insisted that his appearance at the Madjeski Stadium on Saturday was simply a 'conincidence'.

The former West Ham striker told BBC "It was just a coincidence. I was there only to watch the game.

"I was sat with Stuart Pearce at Reading and we had some discussions about the game.

"I want to watch games at the top level and [the Madejski Stadium] was full of passion, so it was good to go there.

"Next time it could be Swansea or Southampton or Tottenham, I don't know, but this is what I am going to do for the next few weeks."

Despite playing down a move to the Berkshire based club, Di Canio did admit that it was his ambition to one day manage at the top level.

A few other names to be linked with the Reading job are Alan Curbishley, former Southampton manager Nigel Adkins, Alex McLeish and current MK Don's manager Karl Robinson.
