Higuain is the striker Spurs need

It's fair to say Tottenham Hotspur need a frontman. A lack of attacking investment over the summer and in January has, it can be argued, left them short of attacking options for the remainder of the season.

Granted, Lewis Holtby was acquired, but with just Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermain Defoe the only options really available to Andre Villas-Boas, the inability to snare someone to lead the frontline could come back to haunt them - especially if Spurs miss out on Champions League football.

However, it hasn't hindered the rumour mill linking the club with a host of big money moves when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season. While Leandro Damiao has been linked, it's Real Madrid's Gonzalo Higuain that is that latest to be mooted with a potential switch to White Hart Lane.

The Argentine has continuously proven himself to be one of the most prolific strikers on the continent, but with head coach Jose Mourinho supposedly prepared to sell Higuain, with Karim Benzema his preferred option on the frontline, Spurs could well acquire the Argentina international. A move the would only appease fans of the north London side, but only as long as Gareth Bale doesn't move in the opposite direction.
