    Barca's interest in Luiz isn't a surprise

While Barcelona continuously dominate all those before them, having dropped just seven points in La Liga all season, there are some that suggest the need to strengthen is minuscule, at most. However, while the attacking side of the game is as close to perfect as any team will admit, defensively the Catalan giants remain suspect.

Yes, they've conceded just 26 goals in the Primera Division all year, but it's still a higher figure than Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Malaga, the trio of which make up 2nd, 3rd and 4th, respectively. Tito Vilanova may've brought in Alex Song from Arsenal, but with the Cameroonian flopping, not to mention Carles Puyol turning 35 in two months time, it's evident that the Blaugrana need to bolster their defensive ranks.

With that in mind, David Luiz is a supposed target for Barcelona. The Chelsea defender has endured a mixed spell in England following his arrival from Benfica two years ago, with his mental frailties often evident, regardless of the physically dominating attributes that render him perfect for a centre-back.

His ability to bring the ball out of defence is perfectly suited for the Barcelona way of playing, not to mention his versatility that could see the 25-year-old utilised as a 'Libero', should the need arise. While it's likely going to take an hefty fee to convince Chelsea into selling, Luiz could well be the perfect replacement for Puyol, who despite signing a new contract earlier this month; is likely to call time on his career sooner rather than later.
