Why Liverpool Will Hurt From Gerrard's Injury News

Being a Liverpool fan I am thoroughly enjoying this season, as you would expect. Brendan Rodgers has got the Reds firing and after a summer of doubt we are getting to see the best of Luis Suarez once again. All seemed sweet, but then Steven Gerrard - Mr Liverpool - was injured in this weekend's tie with West Ham. I have a feeling that the club will miss his severely, and he's why.

He has dropped into a new-found deeper role to accommodate for the creativity of Philippe Coutinho and he has thrived under it. As he ages, Gerrard's energy levels have dropped but it allows him to concentrate on other aspects of his game, for example his passing.

He has completed 87% of his attempted balls this term in his 15 games and according to Squawka has been the club's best player. A big reason for that is the sheer number of chances that he has created already (39).

He has also averaged three defensive actions per game, winning 27 tackles all together. Gerrard keeps things moving in the middle of the pitch and is the motivation that his team-mates to fire them up.

His ability on the pitch will obviously be missed for the duration that he is out but it'll also be a influential loss without his presence.
