Manchester United Linked With £40m Playmaker, But What Could He Offer The Old Trafford Side? Player Report

There are three things that come with January - a new year, the sales and the transfer window in our beloved game. The former may provide us, personally, with a fresh go at things, but the latter offers football clubs a platform to build upon what they currently have. Rumours are rife right now, and one that has caught the headlines today is Manchester United's chase of Marco Reus - the Daily Mirror say that the Germany international would cost up to £40m should United want to secure a deal, but what could he offer the Old Trafford outfit?

He has played in every Bundesliga game so far this season for Borussia Dortmund and has again been a key player to their success. By some margin, Reus has made the most key passes in the squad (46) and claimed five assists, but he's also chipped in with eight goals.

He's had 38 shots at goal with 67% of those hitting the target and is a real danger to sides wherever he is on the pitch.

Although the majority of his chances have been generated from the middle (56.5%), he has sculpted 23.9% from the left and 19.6% from the right. He is a player who can drift across the attacking areas and carve defences open at will, something I believe Manchester United are lacking right now.

The 24-year-old is a real superstar and he is approaching the peak of his career, so to throw that sort of money for his signature, in today's climate, I don't think is a bad idea.
