Statistical Preview: West Ham vs Sunderland

Steven Fletcher will be integral to the Black Cats’ hopes of staying in the division, as he is undoubtedly a match winner. Unusually, considering his exceptionally high standards, his shooting was slightly wayward on Saturday as he failed to hit the target with any of the shots that he attempted.

Sebastien Larsson will be another player that Gus Poyet will look to rely on this season when identifying which players will lead the fight against relegation. The Swede is an established international, racking up over 60 caps and he has been a consistent performer for Sunderland over the last couple of seasons. Phillip Bardsley has undergone something of a rejuvenation since Gus Poyet brought him back into the first team, and has been arguably their standout player in this period. Adam Johnson scored the opening goal on Saturday to open his account for the season. This is a disappointing statistic for such a talented player, but fortunately for Sunderland, the Middleborough-born man has been excelling in other offensive areas as he has made 238 attacking contributions this term – more than any other Sunderland player.
