Why Fans Should Give Luis Suarez A Break

A few months ago if I was asked to choose a few words to describe Luis Suarez, I guarantee that a majority of them would be quite vulgar. I was already was on the fence about him prior to the day of his afternoon Branislav Ivanovic snack, and that proved the final straw. I could not take his negative attitude any longer and I jumped on the bandwagon of Suarez-haters. However, once upon a time, I didn’t hate him, and slowly he’s starting to make his way back into my good graces.

I never had a problem with the guy before he played in the Premier League. When he was at Ajax, I pretty much only got to see him play with Uruguay and it was during the 2010 World Cup that Suarez, as well as the Uruguayan nteam caught my eye. When he came to Liverpool in 2011 I was stoked, and I’m not even a Liverpool supporter. I am, however, a fan of great players coming to the league that in my opinion is the best in the world. But, it didn’t take long for his antics on and off the pitch to just get on my nerves, so much to the point that I really hated the guy. When he was given his ban last season didn’t think it was enough, I wouldn’t have minded if he never came back, but I’m glad he did.

Firstly, Liverpool are actually starting off the season pretty well. They’re currently tied with Chelsea in second in the table, which is pretty impressive considering their position in the league over the past few seasons. His partnership with Daniel Sturridge has proved quite effective since his return from suspension.

Liverpool have only suffered two defeats so far this season, the second of which was this past weekend against table leading Arsenal. But probably the most important change in Suarez this season has been his attitude.

It’s okay not to hate him because he hasn’t given a reason for us to hate him. He has pledged his allegiance to the club and has even vowed to give them a trophy this season. Suarez is playing well, scoring goals, and has won back the support of his fans after an extremely rough year. So go ahead everyone, cheer Suarez on! Who knows, maybe he’ll be the one to finally write some new history for Liverpool after all these years.
