Top 5: Premier League's Most Impressive Players - Includes Manchester United Double

Yesterday, out of sheer fun and boredom, I sat down and tried to come up with a list of the top five players in the English Premier League. I found out that due to the immense quality of players currently plying their trade in the English League, that it is VERY hard to be able to muster such a list without any hitches in the decision making process along the way. Below is my results (which I am sure will garner a few moans and groans, if not swears):

    5. Mesut Özil

I know that I may get lots of abuse for ranking him this low (relatively speaking) and as a Gooner myself, it hurts me quite a bit. But the truth is while Özil’s numbers are almost always brilliant and his off-the-ball movement is second to none, he just never seems to grab a game by the scruff of the neck the way the other players on this list do.

    4. Wayne Rooney

If this was the 2009-2010 season, then Wayne Rooney would definitely have been top of this list. Still, Rooney is still a magnificent player. What makes such a brilliant outlet is that he seems to possess an impeccable and unique skillset. He is pacey, can dribble with ease, a natural finisher and has an absolutely superb technique on set-pieces - not to mention his incredible work-rate.

    3. Robin van Persie

While the Dutchman is having a good season to add to his scintillating performances of last term when it seemed that he had single-handedly grabbed the title for United, his undoubted quality cannot be ignored. Van Persie has a beautiful left-foot which he uses to finish brilliantly, dribble his way out of trouble, and occasionally score brilliant free-kicks. But, there a couple of players who are just a class above him.

    2. Luis Suarez

The hardest choice of this list was separating between this Uruguayan and the eventual winner. The controversial striker possesses almost every necessary quality needed to become a world-class striker. He can dribble past five players with an M&M, he can finish from almost anywhere in the box, he can score lovely screamers, and at any given time, he can create a goal out of nothing.

    1. Sergio Aguero

A hard choice, but in my opinion, the right one. The reason why I chose Sergio Agüero as the best player in the Premier League is because whole on an individual level he is as brilliant as Suarez, Agüero is better than the Uruguayan in the fact that he can adapt to any team and fit in with any formation. This brilliant versatility makes him a valuable asset to any team, and certainly to the league’s appeal.

So, there you have it. Do you agree with my choices? Or do you disagree? I would love to hear what you have to say so feel free to either comment or engage with me on my Twitter!

    Till next time,

    Omar Bahgat
