3 Former Strike Partnerships Better Than Sturridge And Suarez

With Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge scoring goals for fun at Liverpool this season, here are three partnerships that I rate higher than the newly-founded SAS.

1) Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton

The original SAS was one of the finest partnerships that I have ever seen in any sport. The pair fired Blackburn to the Premier League title back in 1995 - Shearer scoring 37 and Sutton scoring 21 - and were almost telepathic in their attacking play.

Shearer was the robust forward who pulled the strings, while Sutton enjoyed getting in behind the defenders and exploiting the gaps.

2) Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole

The Manchester United duo were the most natural pairing that I have ever witnessed. They were able to float around the frontline freely and know exactly what was needed of each other, and with the delivery of Ryan Giggs and David Beckham on the flanks they were always going to be successful.

Yorke was predominantly stronger in the air while Cole ran proceedings on the deck.

3) Niall Quinn and Kevin Phillips

The original little and large partnership - Quinn and Hughes ran the lines at Sunderland in the late nineties with the former knocking the ball down for the latter. When you think of strike partnerships these are probably the first two that pop into your head.
